About the Haitian Orphanage

Fr André Sylvestre, a Haitian Catholic priest, was called to action after the devastating 7.0 earthquake of 2010 in Haiti.   Fr. André sought to alleviate the suffering of some of the children orphaned by building an orphanage.

During his time in Muncie, IN while studying at Ball State University, Fr. André had built lasting relationships with parishioners in the greater Muncie Catholic community.  He turned to them in this hour of need and the community responded by hosting fundraisers and eventually starting the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Haitian Orphanage (OLPH) Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

The orphanage is now home to 36 children living on a 17 acre campus, which includes a school and a residential area. This school not only teaches the orphans, but also 250 other children. In October of 2017, the residence for the nuns was dedicated.  In 2019, the Divine Mercy Learning Center was opened.  Under construction is a Guest House and Clinic.  The clinic will serve the orphans and the residents in the surrounding area.

The brunch for Fr. André is the OLPH Foundation’s way of thanking those who have supported his efforts over the years. Over 97% of the donations received have been given to Fr. André for the orphanage. All donations are tax-deductible.  Check donations can be made out to “OLPH Orphanage Foundation.”  Donations are accepted online by clicking here.
